Sophie Ellis Bextor Launches New Album With Video In Puerto Vallarta

Sophie Ellis Bextor is not just a pretty face, though those cheekbones and perfect features are the envy of many a model, she is also balancing a successful pop career with motherhood and glamorous travel.  Mother of 4 boys, she has recently launched a new album, Familia, already receiving critical acclaim and for which she recently made a series of videos in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
The album Familia is based on her love of Latin America, both Mexico and Cuba are cited as her influences, musical, cultural and story wise.
“Both Ed and I went on holiday to Latin America – I went to Mexico and he went to Cuba. When we came back together we both wanted to do something with more of a Latin American lilt.”
Sophie picked the city of Puerto Vallarta for “Death of Love” and “Wild Forever”, her upcoming music videos, using locals for the production. The director Sophie Muller delighted in the backdrops that this beautiful spot afforded, such as the Casa Kimberly hotel (former love nest of Elizabeth Burton and Richard Taylor), Casitas Maraika, commonly known as "a little slice of heaven" and the picture - perfect stretch of Malecón.
This new album is all about breaking away from the previous dance themes and developing a new style that is more representative of her now, there is a lot of Sophie in this new album, the stories are the things that concern her at this stage of her life and the experience that she brings to these tracks make this an important milestone in her career.
Sophie dances to a new beat, one that starts with great disco and then slides into soft vocal performances that lull you, before uplifting the tempo again then striking into more emotional melodies that deal with loss and death.
The title Familia obviously refers to her family, she was holding her new born son late at night while recording Hush Little Voices, but also the people surrounding her, many who worked on the previous album, which she feels is the seed that created these new songs.
It is a bold change and perfectly timed, her last albums were all extremely successful, all chart toppers and this may well bring in a new and even larger audience.
