A Beauty Editors' Skincare Favourites

If you are affected by the bizarre extremes of weather at the moment, then spare a thought for your skin. Extreme temperature changes (hello snow), air conditioning, central heating and pollution all take their toll, so it’s particularly important at these times to make sure you have a solid care routine. Below are a few of my favourite products and how I use them.
Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant £48 www.johnlewis.com/dermalogica-daily-microfoliant-75g/p1721604
Super gentle, this one is made from rice-based enzyme powder that generates into a silky foam when mixed with water, claiming to smooth skin and accelerate cell renewal. I use this first thing in the morning to freshen up my skin, wake up my face, and remove any excess product that hasn’t been absorbed during the night. It also comes in a dinky travel sized version. Great for sensitive skins; soothing and non-drying. If I have looked after my skin well the night before, I will use this in the shower in the morning and it leaves my face with smooth and ready for makeup.
Sunday Riley Blue Moon Tranquility Cleansing Balm £46 www.cultbeauty.co.uk/sunday-riley-blue-moon-tranquility-cleansing-balm…
This is my ‘medium option’ that is still quite gentle, but contains sugars which start the exfoliation process as well as oils that nourish. It is gentle enough to work up to the eye area to remove makeup and even works on waterproof mascara. I usually use this in the evenings to prepare for reapplying makeup before I go out, it gives my skin an often much-needed glow.
Lancer The Method: Polish £60 www.spacenk.com/uk/en_GB/skincare/cleansers/scrubs-exfoliants/the-method...
The first product in Dr Lancer’s three step regime; this is a microdermabrasion-style, self-heating enzyme scrub that really delivers. The combination of the warmth and the abrasion of the quartz crystals and plant enzymes ensure a really thorough cleanse and certainly leaves your skin feeing cleaner and fresher. I use it to taking everything off at the end of the day. My skin feels like it’s had a bit of a workout afterwards.
Clarisonic MIA FIT £170 www.clarisonic.co.uk/devices-clarisonic-mia-fit/CL30.html
or Foreo Luna Play £29 www.cultbeauty.co.uk/foreo-luna-play.html
These are both great and use ultrasonic technology, so work in the same way, depending on your preference for a silicone device or a brush. You use a foaming cleanser (any gentle one will do) and work away in small circles. They claim to shrink your pores - and I have to say I think they do, as well as providing a further layer of exfoliation which allows your serums and moisturisers to penetrate further, for maximum effect.
The Clarisonic produces a pleasing amount of lather with the brush head and the Foreo play - is very compact, so great for travel. The ultrasonic technology helps reduce fine lines and zaps away any potential blemishes.
Liz Earle Eyebright £15.50 www.lizearle.com/eye-treatments/eyebright-soothing-eye-lotion.html
Simply the freshest, loveliest, witchhazel-based toning liquid, designed for gently removing makeup and refreshing tired, sore eyes. It does just that. Keep it in the fridge for extra impact - I use mine as a gentle toner too.
Sunday Riley Good Genes Treatment £85 www.cultbeauty.co.uk/sunday-riley-good-genes.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIqIi…
This is a delightfully tingly Lactic Acid-based serum, that can either be rubbed in after toning, or used as a mask for more sensitive skin. I apply one pump morning and evening and let it gobble up any dead skin cells that got away. My complexion always looks more radiant afterwards and my serums and moisturisers go much further.
111 Skin Celestial Black Diamond Serum £360 www.spacenk.com/uk/en_GB/skincare/treatment/serums/celestial-black-diamo...
Lovely; calming, plumping, hydrating - I can feel my skin drinking in all the goodness after the workout I have usually just given it. The particles in serums are far smaller than normal creams to penetrate more easily, if you aren’t layering one under your moisturiser, now is the time to start. This one isn’t cheap - but a little goes a very long way.
Angela Langford Bloom & Glow Facial Oil £20.50 www.angelalangford.com/natural-face-oil/19-bloom-and-glow.html
When my skin gets very dry, I apply this under my moisturiser - usually at night. It smells divine, and is the loveliest, calming, nourishing formula that takes down any redness and smooths out any dry patches. My secret weapon against air-conditioning!
Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream £70 www.charlottetilbury.com/uk/charlottes-magic-cream.html
This whipped moisturiser is rich in moisture-attracting hyaluronic acid, and is better than many more expensive formulas. It just feels so soothing to apply, moisturises really well, and sits beautifully under make up. It comes in quite a large pot too so is excellent value.
